Kisan e-Mitra: How to Use the PM-Kisan AI Chatbot for Payment, eKYC and Registration Doubts8 min read

Kisan e-Mitra is the official AI chatbot on the PM-Kisan portal and app. You can ask it in 11 languages, by typing or by speaking. It answers questions on who can get the money, how to register, Aadhaar verification (eKYC), payment status and why an instalment is stuck. It is free and works day and night. For a bank or land-record problem, it sends you to your local officer or the helpline.

What is Kisan e-Mitra?

Kisan e-Mitra is a chatbot for farmers who get money under PM-KISAN. This scheme pays eligible farmer families Rs 6,000 a year, in three instalments of Rs 2,000. The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare started it in September 2023 so that fewer farmers had to go to block and district offices with their questions. According to Wadhwani AI, which built the AI part, the smart features were added in February 2024, with support from Google.org and partners such as Bhashini, EkStep, NIC and Samagra.

Think of it as a help desk that never closes. You ask a question in your own language. It answers using the scheme rules. It is made for the questions that used to need a trip to the block office.

What can you ask Kisan e-Mitra?

The chatbot is built around the questions farmers ask most often. Wadhwani AI says it understands 49 kinds of questions. These are the ones you are most likely to use:

You want to knowExample questionWhat you get
Am I eligible?Am I eligible for PM-Kisan?The rules in simple words: who counts as a farmer family and who is left out
How do I register? How do I register as a new farmer? The steps to register and what papers to keep ready
When will money come? When will my payment come?Where the current instalment stands and how to check your own status
Why is my instalment stuck? Why has my instalment (kisht) stopped? The common reasons: eKYC pending, bank or Aadhaar mismatch, land record problem
eKYC problemHow do I complete eKYC?The three ways to do it: OTP, face scan, or fingerprint at a service centre
ComplaintMy money has not come. Where do I complain?Where to file a complaint and what details to give

Before this, a person had to read and answer every complaint. Now the chatbot does it. Wadhwani AI reports that it answered 26.9 lakh questions in 186 days in 2024, about 13,000 a day. Later, a written reply in Parliament on 24 March 2026, reported by TelecomTalk, put the total at over 95 lakh questions from more than 53 lakh farmers.

In which languages does Kisan e-Mitra work?

It works in 11 languages: Hindi, English, Bengali, Telugu, Marathi, Tamil, Odia, Malayalam, Gujarati, Punjabi and Kannada. Older pages say 5 languages, but that is out of date. You can type, tap a ready-made question, or speak. Speaking helps if reading is slow for you.

How to use Kisan e-Mitra on the PM-Kisan website or app

  1. Open the official site. Go to the PM-KISAN website or open the PM-Kisan app. Type the address yourself. Do not tap links sent on WhatsApp.
  2. Find the chatbot. Look for the Kisan e-Mitra chat icon on the home page or in the app.
  3. Choose your language. Pick one of the 11 languages before you type.
  4. Ask in a short sentence. For example, "why is my instalment stopped" or "my eKYC is pending". Use one question at a time.
  5. Or use voice. Tap the mic and speak. Move to a quiet place first.
  6. Keep your details ready. Your Aadhaar number, mobile number and bank account number help if the bot asks you to check your status.
  7. Follow its next step. If it sends you to eKYC, a status check or a complaint form, finish that step. Then check again after 1 or 2 days.

Never Share: Never share your OTP, bank PIN or card details with anyone who says they are from PM-Kisan. The official chatbot never asks for your PIN. Fake PM-Kisan apps and links are common, so use only the official website and app.

Why is my PM-Kisan instalment stuck, and what does Kisan e-Mitra tell you?

Most stuck payments have one of a few simple causes. The chatbot walks you through them. It also helps to know them yourself.

ReasonWhat it meansWhat fixes it
eKYC pendingYour Aadhaar check is not done. Money is held until it is completeDo eKYC by OTP on the website, by face scan in the app, or by fingerprint at a Common Service Centre
Aadhaar and bank mismatchYour name or Aadhaar number does not match the bank accountGo to the bank, correct the details, and ask them to link your Aadhaar to the account
Land record issueYour land record does not match your form, or it is out of dateMeet your village revenue officer (patwari) or the state PM-Kisan officer to fix the record
Farmer IDReports from January 2026 say farmers without a Farmer ID may miss future instalments. The Farmer ID is a unique number that links your Aadhaar and land recordGet a Farmer ID at a state camp, a Common Service Centre or the state website
Not eligibleYour family may be in a group that is left out of the schemeThe chatbot explains the rule. If you were left out by mistake, meet the district officer

To see past dates and how to check your status step by step, read our PM-Kisan instalment status guide. The latest payment is the 23rd instalment, released on 20 June 2026. According to the PIB document, over Rs 18,880 crore went to more than 9.44 crore farmers, including 2.18 crore women farmers. As of 15 October 2026, we found no official date for the 24th instalment. Only the Ministry of Agriculture announces the date. So do not trust YouTube or WhatsApp posts that claim a "confirmed date".

What Kisan e-Mitra cannot do

  • It cannot change your bank account, Aadhaar or land record. The bank, the Aadhaar office or the state revenue office does that.
  • It cannot release a payment or promise a date. Only the government can do that.
  • It cannot solve a complicated case. For that, it points you to the Help Desk on the website.
  • It is made for PM-KISAN. We could not confirm that it answers crop insurance or loan questions. For those, use the help desks in the next section.

Where to ask about crop insurance (PMFBY) and Kisan Credit Card (KCC)

Farmers who ask about PM-Kisan often ask about crop insurance and loans too. These are different schemes with different help desks. This table shows where to go.

SchemeWhat it givesWhere to ask
PM-KISANRs 6,000 a year in three instalments of Rs 2,000Kisan e-Mitra on the portal or app, or the PM-Kisan helpline (155261 or 1800-115-526)
PMFBY (crop insurance)Cover for crop loss. The farmer pays at most 2% for kharif crops, 1.5% for rabi crops, and 5% for cash and fruit-vegetable cropsHelpline 14447, the Crop Insurance app, your bank, a service centre or the agriculture office. Report local losses within 72 hours
Kisan Credit CardShort-term farm loans at a low interest rateYour bank branch. The low rate applies to loans up to Rs 3 lakh. Budget 2025-26 announced a rise to Rs 5 lakh

For crop insurance, read our PMFBY eligibility and apply guide. If you are planning your winter crop, check the dates in our rabi PMFBY registration guide. For farm loans, our Kisan Credit Card guide explains the papers and the interest. The higher limit from Budget 2025-26 was reported by The Tribune. Banks apply it at their own pace, so ask your branch which limit you get.

Mistakes that delay PM-Kisan money

  • Skipping eKYC after registration.
  • Giving a mobile number that is not linked to Aadhaar.
  • Giving a bank account that is closed, not in use, or not linked to Aadhaar.
  • Writing your name differently from your Aadhaar and land record.
  • Paying agents. Registration on the official website is free.
  • Not checking your status after eKYC. Wait 1 or 2 days, then check.

Two Katyayani apps help at different stages. Farmers can use the Katyayani Krishi Direct app: it has a free agri video call with a farming expert, a crop calendar, order tracking, and works in 9 languages (Hindi, English, Marathi, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Bengali, Odia). Retailers and dealers can use the Katyayani Partner (Retailer) app to see product details, place orders, track delivery and apply for credit with a simple KYC. Stuck on a form or a scheme rule? Ask the expert on the free video call, and keep your Aadhaar-linked mobile handy.

Conclusion

Kisan e-Mitra can save you a trip to the block office when your question is about PM-Kisan. Ask in your own language and finish eKYC. Make sure your Aadhaar, bank and land details match. Then check your status after 1 or 2 days. For crop insurance, call the PMFBY helpline. For loans, ask your bank. For other schemes you can combine, see our agriculture subsidy schemes guide.

Questions Farmers Ask

What is Kisan e-Mitra?
Kisan e-Mitra is the official chatbot for PM-KISAN. The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare started it in September 2023. You can ask about who is eligible, how to register, eKYC, payment status and complaints, in 11 languages. It works on the PM-KISAN website and app, day and night.
How to use Kisan e-Mitra for PM-Kisan queries?
Open the official PM-KISAN website or app and find the Kisan e-Mitra chat. Choose your language. Then type a short question like "why is my instalment stopped", tap a ready question, or speak. Keep your Aadhaar-linked mobile number and bank details handy.
Which languages does Kisan e-Mitra support?
It supports 11 languages: Hindi, English, Bengali, Telugu, Marathi, Tamil, Odia, Malayalam, Gujarati, Punjabi and Kannada. You can type your question or use voice input. Older articles that say 5 languages are out of date.
Why has my PM-Kisan instalment stopped?
The usual causes are pending eKYC, a name that does not match between Aadhaar and the bank, a bank account not linked to Aadhaar, a land record error, or a missing Farmer ID. Kisan e-Mitra lists these checks. Fix the one that applies, then check your status after 1 or 2 days.
When will the next PM-Kisan instalment come?
The 23rd instalment was released on 20 June 2026. The 24th is for the August to November 2026 period. As of 15 October 2026, we found no official date. Only the Ministry of Agriculture announces it, so check the PM-Kisan website, not social media.
Is Kisan e-Mitra free to use?
Yes. The chatbot on the PM-KISAN website and app is free. Nobody should charge you for registration, eKYC or using the chatbot. If someone asks for money, an OTP or a PIN to "release" your instalment, it is a fraud. Use only the official website.
What is the PM-Kisan helpline number?
The PM-Kisan helpline numbers are 155261 and the toll-free 1800-115-526. You can also file a complaint through the Help Desk on the PM-KISAN website. Check the numbers on the website before you call.
Can Kisan e-Mitra answer PMFBY and Kisan Credit Card questions?
Kisan e-Mitra is made for PM-KISAN questions. We could not confirm that it answers insurance or loan questions. For crop insurance, call the PMFBY helpline 14447 or use the Crop Insurance app. For a Kisan Credit Card, ask your bank branch.
How do I do PM-Kisan eKYC?
There are three free ways. First, use an OTP on the PM-KISAN website with your Aadhaar. Second, scan your face in the PM-Kisan app. Third, give your fingerprint at a Common Service Centre. Try the website or app first. Check your status 1 or 2 days later.
Who is eligible for PM-Kisan?
A farmer family that owns farm land can get Rs 6,000 a year, in three instalments of Rs 2,000. A family means husband, wife and young children. Only one person in the family gets the money. Some groups, such as income-tax payers, are left out. Ask Kisan e-Mitra for the full list.
